How fast do i need to be able to swim?

You definitely don't have to be able to swim fast to attend our swim sessions. We have swimmers of all speeds and everyone is put in a lane with those going at a similar speed.

Our only requirement is that you can swim 50 metres (2 lengths) in front crawl before you attend.

do i have to be able to swim front crawl?

To get the most benefit from our sessions we ask that everyone can swim 50 metres (2 lengths) front crawl before attending. It doesn't have to be pretty and it doesn't have to be fast - we can work on that!

If you think you need some lessons to help you with swimming front crawl we suggest you contact Lichfield Leisure Centre who run a number of adult swim lessons every week.

do i have to have lots of swim kit?

All you need to attend a pool swim session is a costume/trunks, swim goggles and maybe a swim hat. Any other equipment (floats etc) can be borrowed until you decide whether you want to buy for yourself.

How do i find out what's going on in the club?

On our Home page you will find a calendar showing what's coming up soon. If you want to look further ahead you can look at the full Calendar.

If you join the Club you will receive an email every week keeping you up to date with Club activities.

The Club also has two Face book pages including one specifically for members and a Whatsapp group.

does the club run an open water session?

We don't have our own open water session however there are several venues you can attend locally. You can find more information on these on our Open Water Swim page.

Where can i buy a wetsuit?

There are many shops and online retailers selling wetsuits so shop around. Some of the open water swim venues also sell ex hire wetsuits which are a great way to get started.

Make sure what you are looking for is a swimming/triathlon wetsuit rather than one intended for eg surfing. Swimming wetsuits have thinner panels around the shoulders allowing freer arm movement.

Make sure it fits properly (they're meant to be tight!) so it's best to try before you buy if you can. Everyone is a different shape and some makes will suit you better than others.

Wetsuits can be expensive so, if you're not ready to buy, consider hiring.

does the club have insurance?

The Club and all our coaches are fully insured. Coaches also have Safeguarding certificates and, where needed, DBS clarance.

The Club is affiliated to the British Triathlon Federation which ensures that we have all the correct documentation in place to run safe sessions.
